2016, Make it a Year of Sustainability

For the remaining six months of our 2016 school term here at UCI, our Facilities Management Sustainability Team will be all about new, simple, and innovative ways to become more sustainable. From January through June each month will have its own theme involving or consisting of either recycling, composting, energy efficiency, or water conservation; and our team will consistently be involved in making information coinciding with these themes available to anyone with an interest in learning new ways to become a more sustainable student and individual. This information will vary from UCI news events, public articles, to useful websites and blog posts, which will all be posted on our Facebook page UCI Recycles or here on our website.

Our themed months will go as follows:

January's theme will be "New Year, New Ways to Go Green", and will consist of acknowledging the new and innovative ways to becoming more sustainable, as well as providing tips and tricks to help you make 2016 a green year.

February's theme will be "Recycling and RecycleMania". Beginning on February 7th (and ending on April 2nd) UCI will be participating in the annual RecycleMania competition, and in support of the competition we will be posting all about Zero Waste and different ways to improve recycling on campus; as well as information coinciding with the competition itself.

March will continue with the recycling theme and will be all about "Recycling Made Easy" and recycling at home or in personal spaces.

In April our theme will be "Composting". As a subject that not many fully understand or know how to execute, our team will make sure to provide all sorts of useful information involving how to compost, the different things that are actually compostable, and the benefits that composting has on our environment.

Our theme for May will be "Energy", which will consist of statistics and articles that explain the positive outcomes of saving energy. There will also be posts about new energy-efficient products available in 2016, as well as posts about the simple ways to help save energy in your home or with personal electronic products.

And finally for our final month of June, our theme will be "Water Conservation and Tips for Summer". With our hot summers and current drought here in California it is important to know the best ways to conserve water across all communities. Some of the easiest ways to conserve water can also be the most effective!
