Washing Away the Drought
How did ASUCI Shuttle Service manage to reduce water usage by 22,652 gallons per year with one simple change? By switching to a more efficient bus-washing system!
Having clean windows is a must for the safety of those who use the buses. In order to avoid this potential safety hazard, UCI washes our buses once a week.
Previously, all UCI buses were hand-washed with potable water, which resulted in wasted water down the drain. Anteater Express personnel were only able to wash 15 buses per week, using approximately 45 gallons per bus.
In light of the current drought, ASUCI Shuttle Service converted to Mobile Fleet Washing in September of 2014. Mobile Fleet Washing uses a pressure-washing using bio-degradable cleaning products and a water recovery system. This new system averages 6 gallons of non-potable water per bus.
In addition to saving potable water, the cost per bus is substantially lower.
