Plastic Bags

How to Dispose.

Many grocery stores and retail outlets provide bins or receptacles to recycle plastic bags or film. These bags are then sent to recycling centers to be repurposed and become new products.

Plastic bags are not recyclable items in any campus recycling program.

We recommend refusing plastic bags at the point of sale.

Who you can contact.

To dispose of your plastic bags you can visit any local grocery store or retail outlet and ask if they collect and recycle plastic bags. Waste Management Sunset Environmental Transfer Station also accepts bags and film from the public.

What happens next.

After being collected, grocery bags are sent to recycling centers to be cleaned and processed to become new products such as new plastic bags, food packaging, and even fences or shopping carts.

Unfortunately, many people tend to throw there excess plastic bags into landfill, so to avoid disposal into landfill there are more sustainable options such as paper bags or reusable grocery bags.
