Glass

How to Dispose.

Glass can be recycled in your personal blue commingled recycling bins on campus or in your housing facilities. UCI also provides larger recycling waste toters outside of on-campus or housing buildings.

Many living complexes outside of campus provide large recycling bins for their residents as well.

There are waste faciliites that allow "drop-offs" of materials such as glass. Many of these facilities specify in recycling or repurposing specific waste items to avoid their disposal into landfills.

Who you can contact.

At UCI: Most of UCI's recycling waste is taken to Waste Management where it is processed through a Material Recovery Facility and repurposed.

What happens next.

After being taken to a recycling facility, glass is usually repurposed to become new containers, but it can also be turned into flooring, tile, bricks, and even glass sand used to purify water. Glass can be recycled continuosly without any loss in quality.

This is why proper disposal is so important. It allows for certain material, that would otherwise be wasted, to become a reusable resource.
