Compost

How to Dispose.

Here at UCI, small composting bins are available for students in housing communities on campus. These communities include Campus Village, Mesa Court, Midlle Earth and Arroyo Vista. Students can take their personal compost bins and empty them out in the larger centralized toter for their community.

Our East Food Court on campus, and some areas of the Student Center also provide compost collection bins.

All 26 food and coffee facilities on campus have a pre-consumer food waste composting program.

What happens next.

Composting is a natural process that allows organic material such as food, paper, napkins, or food waste, to become a type of soil. Composting is beneficial for our environemt as it keeps organic wastes out of landfills, provides nutrients to the soil, prevents pollution, and reduces the need for pesticides and fertilizers.
